Hi Joe,

basically it is like this:
The 14 is the number of sides, as you said.
And the 4 and 16 are simply the number of the line in the spreadsheet/table where they are listed :)
Quite simple.
For the concave ones, this ends at 7, but the last one actively used was the 4.
For the straight ones, the table ends at 16.

In the given line one can find the diameters etc.

I would say that these drawings are not known. I have never seen them anywhere before or after.
Even though they did standardise these tool surfaces in the Swiss watch industry in the 50s/60s.

I found them in one Swiss archive somewhere, after a lot of digging.

Cheers

Martin

Martin, Thank you.

I felt as though two of the illuminati were having a secret dialog in semi-public and . . . well . . . I for one felt left out! :)

How many among us apart from you and Nico have a copy of "The Arc of the Covenant"? ;)

Hey Joe,

Don't feel bad!
I am very honest with you:
Since Nico has the tools, he started the number dropping.
Me at first: huh?
Then, I went looking into my archive from the research on EPSA and starting searching for the details.
And then connected the dots. And found the two tables with drawings of the tools that I had.
Realised that the numbers in the table would fit the numbers on Nico's tools.
Bang.

So, had you asked me two days ago what these number schemes were - I would have been clueless. :)

In the end, it was knowledge developing in front of you with different dots in different hands, connecting in this forum.

Great stuff!

Cheers,

Martin

Very interesting thread this one, and @Joe_A , I also felt like the Illuminati had a chat here!

I got my tool from a friend that had a bunch of different ones and then today I looked closer to the one he gave me for free and it actually has "4 14 PC" stamped on the shaft!

...and a closeup of the stamp:

It's all good.

I notice that the 4-14 has scalloped or radiused "flats" whereas the larger tool needed for the graphs has flat or straight "flats."

That’s like it should be according to what Martin wrote earlier:
“ For the concave ones, this ends at 7, but the last one actively used was the 4.
For the straight ones, the table ends at 16”

Martin,
Is it possible for you to take a pic of that part of the drawing that show these lines and the figures you’re referring to?
