What did I buy?!

Hi

I just bought this Enicar Sherpa on a split second decision from an on-line auction. Did it because I love the design and it looks a bit unique. But I have not been able to identify it and cannot find an identical one googling it. I did find one quite close but with baton hands and a "regular" crown. Did I buy a franken or a rather uncommon genuine Enicar? Hands look a bit like some I have seen on Sherpa Graphs.

That's a really nice Sherpa. All original by the looks of it. Lovely

Thanks! Really love the design features of it. A bit unique as mentioned. Really happy to hear you think it's original. Hard to know without being an expert, especially since I could not find an identical one anywhere.

Don't go diving with it. Mostly because it's vintage but also because the back isn't fully closed.

The Enicars posted by Nico are younger than the model shown by the thread starter. Both have the reference number 140/013 and therefore an AR 1141 works in them. (Both movements would not really reject a service......)

Not exactly, since all documentation is destroyed. I tried to do that on the Graph Chrongraphs with the help of caseback numbers and dates and additional paperwork like ads, articles etc.

Turns out the serial is not allways working on the three hand watches. But the destinguish design is allways a good hint. The paddle hands appeared around 1963 and were gone around 1967 on the chronos. On three hand watches, I have the feeling we just have a very short time where these were used, since the tuning fork hands appeared around 1964. So my guess is 1963-1964 for your watch.

In a catalog from 1964 we see your reference, but still with the older dauphine hands. Thats not unusual to find older design elements in later catalogs.

CORRECT:

My mistake. I was just looking at the back of the case when I took the picture. All 3 watches have the same cover and the same reference number (140/013). Only one has a date and therefore the movement AR 1141. In the other two works the movement AR 1140.

What do you learn from this? You should not trust the reference numbers at Enicar!
