One thought is that, with 9 days to go it's already up to $6,100. :)

The face, hands and bezel appear to be in good shape.

It still amazes me just how many deep scratches the case backs of many EPSA cased Graphs have received over the years . . . and in pretty much the same way.

It's as if the same determined guy, using the same pair of gas pliers has tried to open each and every one of them, never having learned how to do it!

If we could only get our hands on him! But he's probably dead by now.

It's a new, replacement red indicator ring and that's about the limit of my expertise. Beautiful watch.

Umm, what can I say? Sorry?

I hope you did not mistake my post for some sort of left-handed criticism? Sometimes the tone and intention of a post is challenging to discern.

It's a nice looking watch . . . and rare . . . . and it's just the sort of watch we each and all like to see in here, of course.

Occasionally I am mindful that the Graphs as well as other tool watch chronographs of the period - Autavias come to mind - were not particularly expensive watches and may have been worn while changing a tire (tyre) or turning a wrench (spanner) or swinging a hammer . . . and so some show signs of harder use than we'd ever put them through today..

This particular Super Graph does look quite good front on.

There seems to have been a bit of minor damage to the lug at the 1330 position and the lugs may have been polished a bit at one time, but how many others do we have from which to chose?

It still surprises me though that the backs of our beloved watches sometimes look as though they were repeatedly attacked by a chimp who must have been wondering where the ticking was coming from and was despaerate to find out. ;)

No, I was making a poor joke that it was my ham-fisted work with the pliers on all those case backs.

Hey, I resemble that remark :)

My main watch is a Heuer 02 Autavia. I wear it pretty much 24/7 unless I'm showering or swimming. I'm a retired mechanic and still do a lot of work at home. Just two days ago it was covered in metal swarf while I was using a lathe. It gets lots of knocks and nicks. Someday I'll pass it on to my son. He won't give two hoots about what it is, just that it was mine.

I have a mini machine shop at home as well. The central machines are a 7 x 16 mini-lathe and an SX-2 mini mill with home-built DRO. They don't get a lot of use but I occasionally I think about adding a CNC mill, and then realize it too would not get a lot of use either . . . and there is a learning curve for the CAD work and the conversion to CAM.

There is more money tied up in the ancillary items then there is in the machines themselves. ;)

I do take off my rings and my watch when I'm in the shop though, it having been drummed into my skull years ago.

What I learned about running bench and engine lathes, mills and shapers was learned way back in high school in the 1960s. - Brooklyn Technical High School. I waited about 45 years before I reentered adolescence. :)

Cheers,

Joe

Good teachers. I used to take it all off, and I still do when reaching under a dash, but I’m a bit more casual now that I’m not at it hammer and tongs.

Hmm, maybe too casual.

Back to the watch, what do you think was the total Super Graph production? Measured in tens or hundreds?

I have no graph in my collection, so my question could probably a stupid one. Wath is a retention ring , missing at this Graph, and is it as rare as the Super Graph?

How you do you know this?
Looking closely it actually has a quite an amount of chipping even in areas matching the bezel.

The Lugs are very rounded so it’s obviously over polished which in a normal situation would affect value. However this isn’t a normal watch due to the rarity.

My bet is between $10K - $11K hammer price

Good luck to the winner and it would be nice to see if joining the small community.

The missing bezel retaining clip looks like this:

2121

It is not exclusive to the Super-Graph. If you couldn't find one, you could make one with some spring-wire, patience and a little luck.

You could be right about the indicator ring. To my eye, it looks too new, crisp and fresh compared to the rest of the watch -- especially the case and back.
