So, how do you polish a crystal with the watch not disassembled? Should I be taking off the outer bezel and pointer ring first?

I use the Novus system:

I use their disposable paper cloth or microfiber cloth.

Some people use Polywatch, but I've had success with Novus and felt no need to try Polywatch.

I remove the strap or bracelet.

I cut easily removable painter's tape into small strips to protect the bezel and crown if the polishing is going to be vigorous such as would be the case for deep scratches.

And then I just use "elbow grease."

Yes, I do, mostly.

The #3 states it is for heavy scratches, but even so, if one has a deep scratch it will take time to remove enough surrounding material to remove the scratch. It's a pretty gentle approach.

Only if there are no scratches but just a couple of rub marks will I skip #3 and go to #2.

#1 is like filtered water. It mostly just removes traces of #3 and #2 and cleans the acrylic or other plastic.

Novis can be used on display cases, auto head lamps or just about any polycarbonate or acrylic surface that is scratched or marred.

Cleaned up very nicely, thanks. I took off the bezel but I don’t think I would do it that way next time. The bezels are plastic inside and they deteriorate with time. A few pieces broke off but nothing serious. Being as this bezel is all but unobtainium, best not to disturb it unless absolutely necessary.

Before ordering the polishes online, call them as there may be a local distributor in your area. There were five in Edmonton (!).
