My last post in this thread was about a watch with a problem.
This one is about one of the nicest looking Mark IIIs I have seen for sale in some time.
As I have found out not long ago, if you let your Sherpa Graph fog up, even once, it is possible for a little rust stain to form on the lume of the central paddle hands. A word to the wise.
In this case, the watch looks very good except for the rust stains on the hands and this can happen to any of us. It seems to me that NOS hands do pop up now and then, so if I were to buy this watch, I'd probably swap out the those two hands one day.
Have a look at the rear case:
I haven't seen another Mark III with a case as nice as this one, in . . . I don't remember how long . . . maybe never.
We can't see the S/N. but the inside case is dated 6-66, so this fits in quite well with the group. My own Mark III is dated 12-66.
How about the movement?
That is a nice-looking movement with the later light balance and mobile (adjustable) stud carrier that one sees on a 1965-1966 Valjoux 72.
There are quite a few close-up in the listing. The seller is not afraid of close-ups.
As I have mentioned, the worst feature of the watch - and the easiest to repair - is the lume on the paddle hands
What about the price?
What about it?
That's up to you.
What I have found is that some sellers will adjust pricing when the watch does not sell in a reasonable period of time. Not long ago I bought a watch for $4,200 that was listed for over $6,600, but I inquired early and took the chance that the watch would still be there four months later.
This watch may sell though thanks in part to Martijn's book.
If I did not have a Mark III in very good shape everywhere but the rear of the case, I'd be interested.
Cheers,
Joe
