A sniper got it in the end. ;)

The person who won was the 34th bidder and he made his first and only move in the last 5 seconds. For all we know, the successful bidder may have bid well over $10,000 and just beat the second highest bidder by the standard increment of $100.00

The person with 1114 winning bids came in as the 33rd bidder in the last 14 minutes.

All the other folks were in nearer to the beginning.

My one bid was $361.00 on July 13th.

I decided early on that I'm happy with the Mark Id.

So . . .

Who is the happy new owner of the watch?

Would like to know if the new owner is here.

The winning price is basically spot on with what @mgernhar estimated early on. Well done.

I did not bid, but would not have been disappointed in picking it up at that price,. It underscores how severely overpriced is the all-white MKI on C24.

Not a bad result for the buyer assuming they're in the US. Anywhere else and it's a decent amount of import tax on top too. I think eBay were charging the tax straight away (for the UK anyway).

Opinion?

I would like to have seen it break through $10K to $11K-ish, but still a fair price for a pretty nice watch.

There were only four bidders willing to spend more than $7,000.00 and only two took it to the top, the two who came in at the very end of the auction. If there were just one more person who really wanted the watch, it would have sold higher. Serendipity plays a role.

Reverse panda dial watches probably still have broader appeal than all-white watches generally.

Would it have sold for more had the subdial edges been perfect and the central hands with no sign of rust?

Who knows!

Another factor may be the sales vehicle. There are collectors who'd rather buy from a reputable seller of vintage watches, knowing that they will be paying more for them as a result, but feeling confident that an established enterprise stands behind the sale.

US buyers do get charged local sales tax (this was added to the Bay some time ago). No free lunch. In my case that is over 7%. Import duties are generally less.

Good assessment, @Joe_A. On your last point, I think the Authenticity Guarantee and seller's feedback probably made this a non-issue.

I have bought one with the Authenticity service and that was a good safety net to ensure at least that the watch matches the photos and description. I do not expect the authenticators to be experts in the particular model, I need to do my homework there.

<snip>

The winner entered his one and only bid with 4 seconds to spare and the next highest bidder came into the auction in the last 18 minutes despite this having been a 7-day auction. These two had quite a few Ebay purchases under their belts. I bet it's better than an even chance these two are flippers and we'll see the watch for sale on C24 or somewhere else pretty soon.

Time will tell one way or another.

I was interested in seeing how high it would go since I recently bought a 1c also with an all white dial. This one was a bit nicer than mine. I thought it would go over 10k too.

Now $5,938.00 with 30 bidders and with 1 day, 21 hours to go.

I would say that interest is pretty keen, ah but if it were a vintage Rolex Daytona . . .

I think the more experienced bidders put in a low bid at the beginning to create an opportunity to snipe at the end. They make their final offer within the last 30 seconds.

I've put bids in as late as 5 seconds before the end, knowing full well that I may miss, but the process itself pumps up the adrenaline and can be part of the hunt. When I lose, I tell myself: "Another opportunity may appear tomorrow."
So what happened to the watch Ice lost lock on it but did it sell and if so for what price?
