The watch was bought on a whim despite its rough condition I loved the look of the watch with its Dauphine hands and Red Crescent GMT pointer. Confirmation of what I had bought only came via the forum. Thank you to all of you who helped, giving me both the good and bad news about my purchase. The most important detail was the lack of a red ring with a triangular pointer and quite how difficult it would be to find one. I now knew what I had and how much work would be needed to put it right.
I hadn’t used Brendan Hoey the Web watchmaker before but after a lot of research and a conversation with him. I was confident I had found the right man for my watch, so I sent him the watch and the few parts I had managed source and waited.
Unfortunately Brendan very quickly let me know that some of the parts I bought simply weren’t right and more bad news arrived a few days later as the parts watch with the correct red ring had previously been glued together and couldn’t be salvaged.
I wasn’t sure what to do next and after a discussion with Brendan the project was put on hold. I scoured the internet eventually managing to find on eBay a new donor watch and a couple of weeks later it arrived and I forwarded it onto Brendan. A day later he emailed me the photos of the completed watch which was delivered back last week.
I couldn’t believe the transformation and to my eyes the watch looks amazing. Can I justify the money spent? No, definitely not but I have saved a lovely watch in my eyes and have the very great pleasure in being able to wearing this stunning vintage watch as the most indulgent birthday present I hvae ever had.
A massive thank you for all the advice given by the forum members and to Brendan an amazing watchmaker for the work he has done to restore my watch.
Finally as the observant with have guessed the bracelet remains a work in process so if anyone has any beads of rice links or knows where to find them please let me know.
