Dream watch, finally!

Finally managed to get one of my dream time pieces, a Heuer Super Autavia dash timer.

6130

A very cool timer which displays time, has a chronograph, and a clever 12 hour bezel you can use to time longer events. Works but needs the usual full service and crystal polishing. Not as easy and intuitive as a Rally Master (Master Time and Monte Carlo pair) but aesthetically stunning (in my opinion).

Hmm, I thought someone on the list had one they were restoring. Very, very limited run, I thought. Just one airline or something like that?

No, that’s the cockpit timer you mean. Close but not the same. I have one and still restoring. Crown is special and I don’t have any idea how to proceed.
I have shown it here:

happy New year btw and enjoy your latest catch :)

Thanks. Now it comes back to me. I really like the skeleton hands as it is so annoying when one or more registers are partially blocked when I'm using my Autavia. That's why I'm a big fan of the Heuer Monte Carlo. It is very, very easy to read elapsed time and no chance of misreading a register.

As to the crown, it has a winder with a pusher in the middle. A good precision machine shop will be able to make one up. It won't be cheap but we're in the wrong hobby for cheap. My last Monte Carlo required a few custom bushings to be made during its overhaul. The overhaul cost more than the timer. Thrilled to have it on the dash of my Lotus Europa though!
