Sherpa OPS date

Hello,

I am getting into the rabbit hole of vintage Enicar watch collecting and just purchased an enicar Sherpa Ops mark 2, which i love.

I am hoping I can ask for some advice.

The dealer that sold me the watch said he serviced it and it runs well. It has the AR167 movement on which I’m find it difficult to find a full set of instructions for. I have been able to set the time and adjust the quickset date, which is really cool.

However I am finding that after 12 am the date often sticks in between dates and does not turn forward to the correct date. I think it did it once since I took delivery last week.

Has anyone else come across this issue. I have not come across this anywhere on the web when researching.

Any thoughts as to why this might be happening or whether you have seen this yourself?

Am including an image of the watch with the date stuck.

Any advice on this would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Miguel

Congrats on your new Enicar Sherpa Ops Mark 2! It sounds like a stunning piece, and that AR167 movement is indeed a classic. The date-sticking issue you’re describing isn’t uncommon with older or vintage mechanical movements, even after a service.
Since you mentioned the dealer serviced it, they might have overlooked some minor wear on the date wheel or pawls that move the date wheel forward. Older parts can sometimes wear down, causing friction or uneven movement.

Given the recent service, I’d suggest contacting the dealer first. They might offer an inspection to adjust or repair any minor issues, especially if it was guaranteed with the sale. Otherwise, a watchmaker familiar with vintage Enicar movements could check it out and make any necessary adjustments.

The date on my Sherpa Jet, AR1146, holds about halfway until the time turns 3am. Does yours function in the same manner?

Many thanks for this. It may well need a follow up service, check up. I find that I need to regularly wind the crown to get it to flip properly. And even when the crown winding does reach a stop after about 10 winds the date still hasn’t flipped.

Appreciate your advice!

Mine doesn’t. I find that well into the next day it still holds halfway, until I wind it sufficiently. Then it turns.

It’s really just a service issue. Could be dial slightly touching date wheel. A good horologist should be able to fix. Great Ops!! You may want to ask here for referral for good Enicar horologist, the OPS needs a special tool for case back removal and it has special rubber pieces that hold in the movement. Horology Biology has a great video on it on YouTube. Good Luck!
