I wanted to share a special pickup that means a lot to me — my first Enicar and my first Sherpa Graph Mark IV.
What originally drew me in was the Valjoux 72. So many iconic chronographs used this movement, and I spent a lot of time researching which example really spoke to me. While the Rolex Daytona from that era is probably the most famous (and expensive) watch with the V72, a lot of other brands that used the movement felt a bit plain to me stylistically. The Sherpa Graph Mk IV was different — the bold design, the colors, and the overall presence just stood out in a way the others didn’t.
This watch also marks a milestone for me — it’s my first “big boy” watch and a celebration of my 30th birthday.
I actually found it while on a trip to Japan. I spent eight days in Tokyo visiting as many watch shops as I could, and everywhere I looked it was mostly Rolex and Omega. Amazing watches, of course, but not what I had my heart set on.
Then I went to Nakano Broadway, which is famous for vintage watch shopping. I walked into Jack Road & Betty, and there it was — sitting perfectly displayed in their vintage case. The moment I saw it, my heart just lit up. After all that searching, I couldn’t believe I had finally found the one. I knew right then I had to have it.
