More than 80% of all surplus timepieces sold directly after the Second World War are pocket watches. For the purpose of price control, pocket watches are divided into two categories according to whether there are luminous marks on their dials.
To date, the most abundant type of pocket watch is the British Army GSTP. As of February 1945, approximately 662,300 Swiss-made GSTP pocket watches were delivered to the War Office. According to the records of the War Office, there are 26 types of Swiss-made pocket watches with the following characteristics:
. 19 ligne, 15 jewel lever actions, timing ±30 seconds every day in 3 positions.
. Metal dial, shiny.
. Nickel-plated or brass-plated case.
