Hi everyone,

I have the opportunity to purchase this watch. It looks really clean but I am very new to collecting so I can't really tell if anything has been retouched or what the value of this particular model is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ryan

Looks really nice. Others will have a better idea if it is original or not. Price is always tricky. Check out ebay's completed auctions for a rough idea on price vs condition.

Have you got any more photos Ryan? Would help us to check it properly for you.

It's missing the red ring which can be difficult to find. I think you can see the metal ring as well in the gap between the crystal but I'm viewing this on a rubbish screen and it might be some distortion from the crystal (bottom of the picture). All else looks correct from what we can see (I assume the hour hand is hiding under the minute hand?).

Thanks,

Steve

Thanks for the reply guys. I spent a good amount of time on thespringbar and learned a lot - great resource. I will request more photos from the seller today. From my cursory research on this model I was told to look out for after market bezels as they are easily faked. This one almost looks like its in "too good to be true" condition or potentially retouched up there at the 11 hour. I see what you mean about the gap from the missing red ring. Will hopefully follow up with more photos shortly.

Thank you,

Ryan

The hands (including the GMT hand) look legit to me, as does the dial and inner rotating ring. The date disk is showing the right font.

The outer bezel might totally be legit but has been re-touched.

What is the crown situation? Can't tell from this photo. This particular MK of the Guide, I believe, should have the fatter cross-hatched crowns. There were two types they used. One type has the rounder slope and one type is more boxy.

Also, that strap looks like it might be original to the watch -- based purely on the texture of the leather. That was a style Enicar used. Would be good to see the rest to confirm though.

The original leather straps that came with the Guides had a sharp taper and bore the Enicar logo on one side and SWISS MADE on the other -- in gold -- and it had a unique buckle. That would add to the value and desirability of the watch if the strap is indeed original.

That said, it could be period-correct but not original to the watch. This can be difficult to authenticate.

Looks legit to me. There is no such thing like repro GMT bezels at the moment. So congrats, this one is just in a very good condition as is the rest. Bummer still is the missing red ring and tbh it’s very hard to come by an original one. A repro is available and maybe a good start until you find a genuine one.
pic from the side would be interesting to see the crowns. Looks like they don’t have the waffle pattern.

good luck, Nico
