:)

Previously I had suggested that I probably would not buy one of those wooden storage and display cases given the opportunity, but I found this near-perfect one on Ebay from Florida and well, what more can I say?

Very light wear on the cardboard box . . .

And look what I found inside . . .

Alright, the watch was not really inside the box. :sneaky:

Of course the box is from a later period and probably housed a garden variety Enicar - if it is not blasphemy to say so, but it does give the watch an appropriate "throne" upon which to sit.

There were a couple of minor scratches that buffed out with Novus. The back has a couple of deep scratches that will mostly go unnoticed.

Ha Ha don't blame me gov !
That's a beauty, and with it's original outer wrapper. It really shows off that stunning Graph.
Have you worked out what the compartment with the lid is for ?
My guess is for either one or two spare 'watch heads' with spare strap / straps to the left.
Also, what's the wood ? I've been told either solid or veneered zebrano coromandel or macassar
- apparently both now protected. It's pretty heavy.
In certain lighting condition my box shows a slightly greenish tint.
You will need strong nails and only attempt to open with pressure directly under the central magnet ( not from the side).

I thought I may get a rise out of you when you read the headline. :)

Looking here:

It certainly appears the wood may be Macassar ebony. Though I am imbued from youth with curiosity, I probably won't try to peel back a layer of wood to determine whether solid or veneer. ;)

I'll examine the area that you don't see in the back side of the case to see whether the scratches penetrate a veneer or not. I'm thinking that I may color the scratches to match the surroundings and then fill in to surface depth with urethane. I won't bungle to job if I decide to do it.

I would guess that the original watch came on a metal bracelet and an accessory hide strap was placed to the left. The typical Enicar guaranty card would slip under the flap atop the cover of the hidden compartment.

I have no idea what went inside the flap.

There is one other one for sale on Ebay, but the fabric is a bit soiled. There are others from the Florida seller that do not have the compartment but are otherwise similar.

I have been tempted by these but none for sale near me, so postage costs are bit excessive!
