Yes, this is the "Escrow" thread.

Rather than to start a new thread. I thought to just continue this one.

And here it is!

There will be more photos over time. of course.

The case back is in pretty good shape.

The mirror-like finish captured a photo of my thumb. ;)

I got rid of those shoulderless springbars in a hurry.

Color me pretty chuffed!!!

Original text below:

I have a lead on a fine watch.

I'm not talking about it yet, so don't ask! ;)

The seller and I don't know one another . . . and neither of us have used an escrow service, but we are both open to doing so.

I am thinking escrow.com.

Ideas?

Cheers,

Joe

Looks like I will have an experience to share at some point soon.

The seller and I started an escrow.com transaction and it has got off to a good start.

Hurricanes get off to a good start as well, so we'll have to wait an see where it goes. ;)

The process is very similar to how the escrow service works on Chrono24, but with a smaller fee.

Here's a hint:

On or about May 18th the current owner of the watch and I decided to do a deal and we agreed to use escrow.com.

On the 19th of May the funds were sent to the escrow house, but it took from then until today for escrow.com to approve the seller's invoice.

In fairness to the escrow entity, they are probably used to reviewing purchase contracts, orders and then a standard commercial invoice. For a while, they claimed not to have any invoice, but then they rejected the simple invoice we produced for some unspecified insufficiency. On one occasion, they requested a better description of the item to be purchased.

What more ought to be required apart from the name of the watch, the reference of the watch and the serial number? I sent photos to them which were supplied by the seller. In the end, they agreed to accept the invoice and now I am waiting for the seller to ship the watch.

All-in-all, so far, I am OK with the process.

There seems to be no better way to conduct a transaction in the absence of a face-to-face meeting when the two parties do not know one another and don't have acquaintances in common.

Time will tell how the transaction turns out as it always does!

I know the feeling . . . ;)

It's on Staten Island and I am on Staten Island, but I won't be back here until Monday.

Tracking is showing a clearance delay, but I have not been asked to pay the small duty and fees yet.

I'll call Fedex in a bit.

I had a bit of' agita' waiting for the Bengt Ohrelius watch to clear through Customs. As I recall, I may have had to wait two weeks +/- to get my hands on the watch.

When I spoke with a FedEx rep. this morning, she told me that the package was still in Indianapolis while the WEB tracking was showing it local here on Staten Island as of 0613 this morning.

In any case, we are waiting on US Customs.

The carrier sends forms to Customs and Customs does not generally touch every package. They do some sort of randomized selection of packages they want to inspect themselves, otherwise they rely on the paperwork of the carrier (as originating with the shipper and/or recipient.)

It's a process that can't be hurried, damn it! ;)

Cheers,

Joe

Quoting the seller:

"Oh I am more than sure that you will be thrilled to see the condition of the watch."

To those who don't know what it is Steve, basically everyone except one other person and the seller, we'll all have to wait a bit longer.

The only hint I will give at this point is that, it would be nice to find a NOS white Tropic strap with an appropriate Enicar buckle.

I do have a 16mm Enicar buckle, but this will need something a bit larger I would suppose.

I do have a white leather rally strap 'at the ready' for Monday.

;) ;) s,

Joe

For what it's worth, Joe, I switch between a white tropic and a grey rally strap on mine. I prefer the grey (at least for now). And if you're wanting to stay historically accurate to Mr. Clark, I recall seeing at least one photo of him with a grey strap. Nico can correct me, if wrong.

Have fun with it! No rule that it has to be on a white strap.
