Guide Pointer Ring

Have any of you seen a pointer like this one? It seems to be two parts. Is this normal or has this been repaired? This is a mkIII btw. Another picture shows remnants of red paint on the side face of the triangle so it was painted at some point in the past.

Original rings are not painted. They are anodized. I don't think they are as "pointed" as this one is, either. Indicator rings with the "house" style pointer do show up from time to time, not so with the earlier style.

I noticed the rather pointy end too. I know these break fairly often so I'm assuming someone tried to replace the tip.
