Catalogue?

Hi all

I’m new to the forum so first to say thanks to you all for making it happen. I’m enjoying it.

when I find the right one I plan to add an Enicar to my collection. It will be my second vintage piece (the other is an old Bulova I was given 40 years ago that I recently brought back to life). The model that attracts me is the Sherpa super jet. Would be great to hear your views on 1) the right price for a model in good condition 2) your views on refurbishing dials (I know that’s anathema to many) and lastly 3) is there any such thing as an on line soup to nuts catalogue of the various models?
Many thanks!

There are brochures, catalogs and manuals here:

More manuals here:

You have heard of the book on Enicars?

Refurbishing dials is not a good idea. It is extremely difficult to get the various scripts done properly. Most redials are pretty obvious, look bad, and significantly reduce the value of the watch.

Here's a different point of view...

Regarding value, you can check here:

Values for the super compressor watches are going up quickly, especially for the larger sizes. Might be a bubble but, if you can afford the price of admission, I would recommend buying sooner rather than later. Prices will stabilize but super compressor Enicars are evolving from a niche watch to a main-stream collectable.

Don't forget the 36mm super compressors. Myself, I find the wide bezels of some the larger watches not as clean a design as their smaller brethren. Certainly the Enicar Jet is a design classic where the Super Jet is just a bit awkward looking with its obviously too large bezel. Super Dives mostly fair better.

Then we get to the Guides. In my opinion one of the best designed watches ever. Incredible details, colourful, but nothing superfluous. It's still just a plain old tool watch, albeit a perfect one. The movements are excellent with the 30 and 33 jewel versions being just about incredible.

Hmm, got a bit carried away there... what was the question again?

Welcome to the forums Ian :)

Great choice on a Super Jet @Hugger69 has a great example.

I think John has given you lots of info there :D one thing I would mention is before you commit, just post a picture up here on the forums as sometimes these can have some fake or incorrect parts. Enicar loved modular designs, so lots of different incorrect hand sets, dials etc will fit on a Super Jet.

Everyone should have a Super-Jet because its just Super!

I've never gotten so much positive reactions from people outside our vintage watch community on any other of my great lookin Enicars!
The Super-Jet feels so modern and timeless in its size and appearance, go for it Ian!

Thanks everyone for the welcome and useful info! I bought the book already. Expensive but understandable as it’s a niche / low volume publication. What do we think of the ‘Enicar Super Jet Vintage Automatic 37mm 6909 £2781’ that is currently on Chrono 24? Suspiciously clean? Overpriced? Thanks all, Ian

You do realize this is NOT a Super Jet?

Back is sufficiently scarred up not to be suspicious. I think the silver dials are a bit rarer. Seems rich to me considering there are Super Jets for sale on chrono24 for less. I bought a nice Jet for $1200US albeit with no box, etc.

I can't seem to find that one. Do you have a link? All Super Jets are 40mm, so John is right in that it can't be a Super Jet. The normal Jets are the smaller size if that's what you're after? Both are great watches, just depends on size preference.

Cheers JB (y) didn't show for me for some reason.

So, yes expensive. Dial is in poor condition really and don't be fooled by the bracelet, box, papers and stand. Not original.

Also looks like Freddy Kruger is their watchmaker judging by the caseback! The GMT hand is hiding as well which isn't useful.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful advice. I realise it’s a jet, not a super jet, and therefore smaller but I do like the checkerboard effect (that the super jet does not have). I am suspicious of the hidden rallye gmt hand so have asked for a photo of it revealed! Let’s see what they come up with!

Just for my interest, what causes you to be suspicious about the bracelet, box, etc? Many thanks, Ian

I think, as you say, that the dial is not in good enough condition to warrant the price. I will refrain from pulling the trigger. Interested though in a jet or super jet in good condition. Cheers, ian

The bracelet could be an Enicar original but not for that watch!
The box could be fine but I think it’s too new or a repro, same with the tag.

The case back is destroyed and over polishe, vey bad in Enicar-puritans eyes and lover the value, no doubt!

There are lot of people trying to ride on the Enicar popularity wave right now so look out for franken or fake watches!

Hi all

thanks again for the flow of info and links which is much appreciated. The book arrived today; looks great, I am looking forward to getting stuck in. I saw something interesting today on watchpatrol.xyz

Enicar Sherpa Jet Case NOS ref. 1483502 *PIC*

What do you think of this? The cost is €400. I like it because of the condition of course. I guess that’s just me. How realistic is it to find the right period movement, dial and hands (pref NOS) and then find the right watchmaker to put it together? I realise of course that this would not be ‘authentic’ although I would insist on all correct parts of course. So not a Frankenwatch but maybe a benign mutation!

Thanks all

Ian

It might take many years to track down the missing parts. This is a good part for some one with a watch with a damaged case.
