I picked this one up a good few months back at auction as I had spotted what appeared to be some engravings on the caseback that referred to the USS Dixie. She was a Destroyer tender built just before the start of World War II for the US Navy. Her task was to service destroyers in, or near, battle areas and to keep them fit for duty.

The watch arrived not running as per the listing but I was most excited about the engraving any way. The full engraving reads "Landy J.J. ETC" at the top and at the bottom "DIXIE CPO MESS" with the start date and end of his tour of duty with the USS Dixie on either side "10-46" and "7-66". The ETC part refers to him serving as an Electronics Technician Chief Petty Office apparently.

Unfortunately I've been unable to find him listed anywhere online after a lot of searching but I'll keep my eyes open (y)

The watch itself is a lovely condition Mark I in great condition. The black on the dial is really fantastic.
