Great read, Steve! Well-crafted and well-written. Will bookmark this for sure. Thanks for sharing!

Enicar's "Dirty Dozen" story always fascinated me. There were definitely some manufacturers that played both sides of the conflict; some, like Panerai, had no choice. Interestingly, Rolex had manufactured Panerai watches up until the war, and Hans Wilsdorf basically saved Giuseppe Panerai's life by continuing to do so -- but with sterile dials and no formal mark identifying Rolex.

Of course, there were so many watchmakers in Enicar's situation.

Instead of "Dirty Dozen" would it have been "Lucky 13"? The mind reels.

By the way: Were these photos your collection?

Also, thanks for the end part: An important reminder to us to all to protect our investments!

Thanks guys. The only restrictions put on me for the article were writing about investing and adding an insurance angle in, so had to do those bits!

I think they were pretty much all Nico's but they forgot to add the copyright in!

Great piece of writing on our favourite subject and the mug shot's not that bad either, nice to see a members face to relate to a name :)

An enjoyable and informative read. I am/was one of the many who didn’t know about Enicar‘s part in the production of mil-spec watches for the MoD. Thanks for posting 👍
