Most Wanted

`I don't really have a most wanted dream watch because I already have the three watches that I ever craved.
I started collecting vintage watches 8 years ago and my first 'must have' watch was a Gallet MC12 with Excelsior Park movement.
Apart from the Jim Clark connection I really appreciated Gallet's philosophy of making a professional sports watch totally devoid
of unnecessary or superfluous decoration. Even the crown is unsigned. Still love it.

Then came a couple of Enicar Sherpa Graph's.
Intelligently designed with an attractive easy to read dial and a fine, if ubiquitous and reliable Valjoux 72 movement.
Beautiful build quality and design.
Then another 10 Enicar's mostly with EPSA compressor cases.

Whilst amassing my little collection my radar kept searching for a nice Aquastar Deepstar.
Nowhere near as simple to locate as the first two. Apart from the fact that Jacques Cousteau
helped to design it, I love it's simple and thoughtful design.
Divers were complaining that dive watches bore too much unnecessary information which made them difficult to read underwater.
A huge easy to read 30 minute register at 3.0 O clock solved that problem.
An amusing rotating ships propeller at 9.0 O clock indicates the elapsed seconds and confirms that the watch is still functioning.
Important, because the Deepstar is a chronograph and Aquastar claimed it was the Worlds 1st chronograph capable of diving
10 ATM ( 330ft ) in static waters. That's pretty well the height of Big Ben. I eventually found a nice ' Big lume plots' version as used
by Cousteau and his team.

To be honest the only other watch I might be tempted to buy if I could find one in a car boot
sale for a tenner would be ----------

I feel the same way. I would put Enicar’s build quality and attention to detail up against any of those big boys.

Speaking of Heuer, one regret I have is selling my Heuer Daytona. I picked mine up at a time before they started to climb... it’s so underrated still,
Yes another great watch and agree it is underrated, there always seems to be one that seems to get overlooked in a range, would be a great buy think this one will eventually get picked up by collectors
If I can add one to the list, to continue to the lovefest for 1970s Breitling :ROFLMAO:, one piece I always loved was the Chronomat Ref. 808 (with a venus 175). Early 70s, 38 mm. (They made them in the 60s, and some had a white slide-rule bezel, but this one with the black bezel is just ...)

Very nice not really seen that one before and the Venus movement makes it interesting, I will have a look into that one for more information to read, can't get enough watch history :)(y)

Geat position to be in having your most wanted in the bag so to speak (y) for me to get there I will have to save much more pennies or sell my soul to the devil 🤣

I can see why you like the Gallet so much, for a chrono it is less sports and more simple elegance could see that on with a nice dinner suit.

As for the Sherpa Graph's two lovley examples you have there just perfection, Enicar designs seem to get it just right don't they.

I have always admired the Aquastar's approach strait up no messing fuctional divers watches, love the big eye counter on that one.

Ha Ha good luck with finding the Blancpain for a tenner, if you find two give me a shout and 'ill give you a profit on it.

Thanks for the link to the divers article love that first one on the list

Enicars:
Ultradive
Star Diver
Jet Graph
Super Jet
Super Graph

Other Brands:
Zenith El Primero (I really like the A787 but haven't found one in good condition with bracelet).
Gallet Multichron 12
Universal Geneve Aero Compax

I think that would scratch my itch and I'd be happy and stop.

Who am I kidding I wouldn't stop but I'd be very happy!

Great choices in Enicar, I so want and Ultradive, problem is I would have to sell to buy but I have a new rule in place which is no new money to be used for watches and I am so attached to the ones I have it would be a big wrench.
Great non Enicar selection, second time Gallet has turned up on Most Wanted thread its a brand I have not had much to do with but love to research brands so it will be next on the list.

The Universal is very cool . Funnily enough when I was thinking about posting this thread I had a short list written down of my Most Wanted, I would have posted the Compax as my third choice great minds think alike (y)

With your collection you wouldn't have a hard time selling one to fund another.

The guy I bought my Sherpa Guide from is selling his Aero Compax. Tempting very tempting. 😁

Go on you know you want it 😁😁
I most definitely do. I'm waiting for him to get desperate and lower the price and then I would have to sale some other pieces myself.
The Gallet MC is half the price so that is a bit more attainable in the short run.

The Witty dial design is pretty cool and reminisent of many of Breitlings and Heuers designs of around the same era, The sloted hands are great.

Zenith Defy is cool  again big and bold love the dial colour and case shape, bit like a Omega Speedmaster 125, hope your hunt for your most wanted goes well.
